Position Overview The Department of Communications at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor in advertising. The successful candidate will teach core advertising courses and electives in areas of high need such as digital media, and support graduate courses. Responsibilities include teaching, scholarly/creative research, service, assessment, and mentoring. Teaching assignments may be in‑person, online, or hybrid, scheduled during day or evening.

Responsibilities • Develop and teach introductory and core advertising courses;

• Develop courses in areas of specialization (e.g., digital media, graduate courses);

• Produce scholarship and/or creative work commensurate with tenure requirements;

• Serve on departmental and university‑wide committees;

• Advise students and participate in the life of the department and broader community;

• Engage in assessment of student learning and contribute to accreditation activities;

• Participate in efforts to support a diverse student population and inclusive excellence.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. or terminal degree in communications or a related discipline by appointment start;

Minimum two years of professional experience in advertising;

Ability to teach a broad range of advertising courses, including principles, writing, creative strategy, account planning, and campaign courses;

Effective oral and written communication with culturally diverse students and colleagues;

A well‑articulated research and/or creative agenda in advertising and/or digital media.

Preferred Qualifications

Evidence of successful teaching;

Four years of professional experience in advertising;

Ability to lead high‑impact programs emphasizing student mentoring and professional engagement;

Connections with industry leaders and potential for university‑industry partnerships;

Contribution to curriculum development, accreditation self‑study, and assessment of student learning;

Experience or interest in integrating AI tools in professional advertising environments.

Compensation Assistant Professor: $6,851–$6,985 per month (academic year classification).

Associate Professor: $6,825–$14,523 per month (academic year classification).

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include research grants, moving expenses, startup funds, and a reduced teaching load.
