This position functions as a Transportation Supervisor II in the Macon County Bridge Office. Duties include planning and scheduling maintenance activities, assign crews & equipment to tasks, determine resource needs including materials, inspect activities of crews in progress & upon completion for compliance with standards & instructions, check & monitor work reports of subordinates, accounting for time, work completed, materials & equipment used. Assignments include responding to complaints, requests & routine inspection of problems & conditions in order to plan work, relaying information about policy, procedures & standards to all employees, assisting with interviewing and recommending hiring of employees, maintaining diaries and other required records, perform routine safety audits and monitor inventory. Additional duties include coordinating and supervising force account construction, monitoring expenditures and work accomplished to assure compliance with budgets and work plans.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences****Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies**:Salary Grade and Salary Range:
NC 16 $55,823-$97,689**Management prefers applicants with the following:*** Working knowledge of standard bridge maintenance procedures* Experience in planning and organizing work* Experience in filling out daily work sheets that documents personnel, equipment and location worked* Experience in calculating quantities of material needed for work crews to perform daily functions.* Experience in supervising a crew or crewsAdditional Expectations: Direct, assist and train subordinate employees. Maintain accurate records of work accomplished. Possess basic math skills. Ability to communicate, establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, management and the general public. Ability to work in extreme temperatures and uneven terrain conditions for extended periods of time. Ability to respond and work in emergency call situations and inclement weather. Operate state vehicle. Safety toed shoes required.**Minimum Education and Experience**Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
