The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees.**Description of Work**The NCVDLS is an AAVLD-accredited participant in the National Animal Health Laboratory Network with BSL3 capability. The primary mission is to provide veterinarians, the animal industry, and the citizens of North Carolina with accurate and timely laboratory support services in order to diagnose, conduct surveillance, and assist in responding to and preventing animal disease. Both protection of public health and the food supply are important components of this mission.
Professional service activities involve 100% diagnostic pathology that includes necropsy, histopathology, case coordination and client consultation of a diverse caseload**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences**Recruitment Range- $92,184-$150,000* Extensive knowledge of veterinary pathology.* Individual must be eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in North Carolina.* Candidate must possess a DVM or equivalent degree and have completed a pathology residency program..Any employment offer may be less than the maximum of the range due to salary equity with similarly situated employees or the selected candidate's related education and experience.

Eligibility to obtain a Controlled Substance Registration Certification by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency in order to purchase veterinarian drugs within 6 months of hire. Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Department of Agriculture/Animal, and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) category II accreditation within 3 months of hire. Bacteriology Role Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of North Carolina and advanced training in veterinary bacteriology, and board certified by the American College of Veterinary Bacteriology or board eligible and 2 years of veterinary diagnostic laboratory experience.
