Substitute Receptionist
The Town of South Hadley is seeking friendly, positive individuals to join the Senior Centers team as substitute Receptionists. Substitutes will work as coverage is needed, and in the absence of the regularly scheduled Receptionists. Work opportunities may be offered for either shift (8am - 12pm; or 12:30pm to 4:30pm) and may include both planned multi-day assignments, or shifts on a short notice basis. The Receptionist at the Senior Center serves as a welcoming ambassador, who assists participants with information and with registration for various programs and services, while helping with various projects.
The position requires exemplary customer service, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact with a diverse population of senior participants, families, volunteers and staff with empathy, tact and discretion. The position creates and maintains a professional and accessible image as the initial point of contact representing the South Hadley Senior Center in a manner that promotes a culture of community, inclusion and belonging.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Opens and/or closes the Front Desk and Senior Center.
- Offers a pleasant, welcoming, and professional greeting to all incoming individuals; handles walk-in visitors, phone calls, emails; answering questions or directing to appropriate staff.
- Checks-in and registers members for various activities and programs and accepts payment for applicable fees; monitors sign-ups for lunch program; documents attendance.
- Updates appointment sign-up spreadsheets with current and future calendar dates.
- Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Performs other related job duties as required.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
- High school degree or GED; at least one year of related work experience
- Ability to satisfactorily pass CORI check
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain soon after hire
- Knowledge of computer and software skills and ability to learn and work with new software
- Position may also help with room set-up and requires ability to move up to 20lbs.

Schedule/Substitute Status: This is a substitute (as needed), variable hour position, with no minimum guaranteed hours. Position is non-benefited, at $17.01 to $20.74/hour depending on qualifications. Schedule will be based on need, and typically replicate 4-hour shifts of current Receptionist staff: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 12:00pm or 12:30pm to 4:30pm.
