POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Classroom Paraprofessional Department: Elementary

Work Year: Academic Calendar

Salary: $17.00/hour. Two full time positions available at the East Elementary School.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

To support the principal and classroom teachers in implementing TCA's program and encouraging a positive learning environment. To assist teachers in academic assignments, clerical duties, classroom management, and student tutoring as deemed appropriate by the supervising teacher(s) as well as performing various duties assigned by the principal contributing to efficient operations of the school.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

* Reports directly to assigned teachers

* Reports indirectly to the Head Paraprofessional

* Reports indirectly to the Building Principal

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Tutor students in all subject areas

* Assists teacher in carrying out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments as designated in the lesson plan. Paraprofessionals should expect to spend approximately half of their time in direct student contact

* Coordinates completion of assignments with regular classroom teachers

* Works with students in one-on-one and small group situations to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher

* Assists/completes daily paperwork, i.e. lunch count, grading, student referral slips, various student passes, fills weekly take-home folders, permission slips, and parent notes

* Proctors test taking when requested by teachers

* Assists teachers in locating materials for classroom, and assembles materials for teacher use as directed, including bulletin boards and other displays

* Completes curriculum book inventory

* Completes order forms for classroom curriculum materials and supplies

* Assists the students in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks

* Attends pre-job training, on-going training, meetings and seminars as required during the school year in order to remain up to date on job procedures

* Supervises, resolves disciplinary student issues at recess or escorts to principal

* Functions as a monitor during lunch including supervising and dismissing students, making sure lunch area is clean

* Monitors carpool

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

* High school diploma or GED equivalent required

* Must possess or obtain CPR and First Aid certification

EXPERIENCE:

Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred

* Completion of Tutor Spalding Training

* Knowledge of TCA operations, laws, rules, regulations, and procedures

* Ability to use telephone, computer, copier, laminator, and other office/classroom support equipment

* Frequently use eye, hand, and finger coordination to enable the use of a computer, other office equipment, and writing utensils

* Spend majority of work hours standing and walking while performing job duties
