Job Summary:
The Emergency Financial Representative is responsible for ensuring reimbursement to the organization from patients or other responsible parties. This includes assisting patients in understanding their healthcare insurance coverage, upfront point-of-service (POS) collections, and setting up financial arrangements to avoid bad debt. The role also involves assisting patients in accessing programs like Medi-Cal and Uncompensated Care.

Responsibilities:
- Safeguards patient confidentiality in accordance with regulations and policies.
- Ensures a safe patient environment and adherence to safety practices.
- Exhibits positive guest relations skills and effective communication.
- Sets priorities, integrates changes, and organizes work efficiently.
- Completes registrations, verifies insurance, and secures upfront collections.
- Starts the interview and screening process for Hospital Presumptive Eligibility.
- Educates patients about insurance coverage and financial liability.
- Follows up on discharged accounts when liability was not secured.
- Provides financial, insurance, and registration assistance.
- Complies with all policies and procedures, demonstrating accuracy.
- Utilizes positive collection skills while complying with EMTALA laws.
- Participates in the Performance Improvement program.
- Adheres to attendance policy and provides notification of absence as per policy.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the department supervisor.
- Answers unit phone and directs calls accordingly.
- Performs data entry into electronic medical database systems.
- Coordinates equipment/supply needs.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum two years of experience in front office/medical billing and/or hospital registration/admitting.
- Minimum two years of experience in insurance verification and/or medical/hospital billing.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Knowledge of eligibility requirements for Medi-Cal, Hospital Presumptive Eligibility Program, Medicare, Covered California, Cobra, limited benefit plans, VVC, and Uncompensated Care Programs.
- Medical terminology knowledge.
- Typing skills of 45+ wpm.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Certification (within three months of hire).
- LA City Fire Card (within two weeks of employment - PIHGS Only).
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Bilingual proficiency.
- Evidence of continuing education in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
Special Considerations:
- Stringent adherence to all privacy policies and procedures, including HIPAA.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast and high-pressure environment.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time.

- Part-time position.
- 5:00 PM - 1:30 AM shift.
- Willingness to adjust work schedule to meet departmental needs.
