Performs routine and complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, and immunofluorescence on tissue samples for microscopic examination by a pathologist to diagnose disease. Knowledgeable in pathology, management, education, and regulations that impact histotechnology; acts as a technical resource for the department. Responsibilities

Receives, accessions, and prepares tissues and other biological materials using accepted histological techniques; performs proper labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and coverslipping. Prepares and evaluates stains, reagents, and solutions necessary for slide preparation following established policies and procedures. Assesses and makes decisions for proper handling and processing of specimens with minimal or no guidance. Evaluates complex and difficult samples to determine suitable methods of preparation and staining. Monitors technical aspects of the department and serves as a resource for technical information. Participates in the Performance Improvement program. Performs quality control, preventative maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of instruments and stains for optimal performance. Follows all accreditation and regulatory guidelines, demonstrating consistent adherence to national patient safety goals. Stays abreast of new technology and methods in areas such as IHC and histochemistry; assists with implementation. Able to multitask effectively and work with limited or no supervision. Qualifications

Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize duties. Knowledgeable in the areas of pathology, management, education, and regulations that impact the field of histology. Required Education and Experience

Option 1: Bachelor Degree with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry (must include both), AND successful completion of an accredited Histotechnology program. Option 2: Bachelor Degree with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry (must include both), AND one year full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining. Preferred Education And Certifications

Bachelor degree and successful completion of an accredited Histotechnology program, AND/OR Histotechnology certification, HTL, by American Society of Clinical Pathology. Work Environment

Sign‑On Bonus: $10,000 plus up to $5,000 relocation. Pay Range: $28.80 – $42.84 per hour. Additional Information
