Job Description Are you a creative and independent thinker with a background in workforce development? Do you enjoy helping people in critical moments of their lives?
The Regional Business & Economic Development Coordinator reports to the Employment Solutions Manager in the Employment Services (ES) Division. ES programs improve the functioning of the labor market by bringing together individuals who are seeking employment and employers who are seeking workers. The SC Works system provides jobseekers with career guidance, job referrals, assessments, and résumé assistance. Free tools to assist employers include posting job openings, recruiting and screening candidates, and reviewing job market trends. South Carolina’s 12 local workforce development boards administer the SC Works Centers throughout the state.
The incumbent will ensure exemplary customer service is provided to all, while coordinating and facilitating the delivery of Rapid Response services throughout their assigned multi-county territory. South Coast territory will include service to the following counties: Berkeley, Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton, and Jasper. This individual will work closely with local area workforce teams, economic developers and industry associations to promote solutions from the state workforce system. Incumbent is also responsible for providing strategic and operational support to local business service teams and assisting local areas in other workforce projects, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Relay information to Employment Solutions Manager and regional stakeholders on potential downsizing and closures.
Conduct management meetings and lead group information sessions for assigned company layoffs and closures.
Maintain up-to-date records of all business outreach, retention activities, and Rapid Response activities in SCWOS.
Keep timely and accurate records of all Rapid Response program activities.
Support local Economic Development and Business Services Teams (BSTs) through contributing reports, sharing information and business lead generation.
Offer feedback to management and the team to include project status updates, summaries of activities and best practices.
Attend and contribute regularly to BST and Economic Development team meetings.
Assist business services staff in the Rapid Response techniques. Provide updates and feedback to manager on meetings.
Engage and provide reports to Economic Development Organizations within assigned region.
Identify training needs by evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of staff selected to participate in Rapid Response Services with BST Leads. Ensure the Leads have the framework for providing service to both large and small employers.

Education and Experience A bachelor’s degree and relevant training and experience; OR any equivalent combination of education, relevant training and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position.
Additional Requirements Position requires routine driving as part of their job and overnight travel. Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends. Other duties as required.
Bachelors degree and two (2) years of experience in economic development, workforce development or project management. Advanced communication and presentation skills, creative and independent thinker, advanced data and reporting skills.
