Diesel and Trailer Mechanic II – Service Truck

Pay Range Base pay : $29.00/hr – $34.00/hr
Job Description The Mobile Diesel and Trailer Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, the Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs, continually expanding advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. They must comply with all company policies and achieve high level performance metrics.
Responsibilities
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Make minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and test instruments.
Road‑test vehicles to ensure proper operation.
Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and document findings accurately.
Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, reconciling periodically.
Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
Communicate effectively with clients and customers, providing information and resolving issues.
Prioritize tasks and allocate time efficiently.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks as needed.
Document work, upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the company iOS device and TRAIT application.
Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
Work independently, managing own daily schedule and maintaining high productivity within standard repair times.
Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary.
Communicate with management and support via email or phone for repair estimates and purchase orders.
Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (other combinations such as a degree with fewer years of experience are acceptable).
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
Must pass DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical, or provide a valid DOT medical card with at least 4 months validity.
Must be 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority regulations.
Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
