Position Purpose:
The Heavy Equipment Shop Mechanic performs skilled tasks repairing all fleet vehicles, machinery, motors, tools, and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform all duties with Sunland’s core values, safety advocacy, and environmental stewardship.
Repair/maintain heavy equipment and trucks—pavers, rollers, milling machines, dump trucks, etc.—including fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, clutches, filters, oil and lubricants.
Respond to supervisors for repairs and maintenance; prepare and close work orders.
Diagnose, service, and repair trucks/equipment using electronic scan tools.
Conduct safety meetings (daily PTP & weekly tailgate topics).
Participate in jobsite and safety meetings and company training.
Maintain a clean, safe shop; keep tools/order supplies.
Order fuel, parts, tools, and supplies as needed.
Perform any additional duties assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.

Safety:
Position is safety‑sensitive and subject to company drug/alcohol policy and OSHA regulations.
Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Enforce safe work practices and identify hazards.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Work onsite and in shops; communicate verbally and in writing; lift up to 50 pounds; climb stairs/ladders; work outdoors in all weather.
Exposure to chemicals, gases, dust, and debris.
Worksite hazards include loud noise, moving vehicles, and dust/debris.
Position Type/Hours:
Full‑time. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
Travel:
Will be required to travel to job sites without exception.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
2–3 years of heavy equipment maintenance or equivalent education/experience.
Scan tool experience a plus.
Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing); meet FMCSA English proficiency requirements.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:
Valid driver’s license and clean motor‑vehicle record.
Pass pre‑employment drug/alcohol screening and background check.
Basic tool set for preventative maintenance.
