General Summary The Investigator, Child Forensic Interviewer is an integral part of the Prosecutor’s Office Investigative Division, applying scientifically researched interview methods to child victims and witnesses. The incumbent will obtain and maintain certification in NCA approved Child Interview Protocols, serve as the lead role in the investigative process concerning child interviews, and adhere to Bonner County Multi‑Disciplinary Team protocols and NCA National Standards. The role also requires serving as an expert witness in court and acting as a victim coordinator for misdemeanor criminal cases within the Bonner County Prosecutors Office.
Essential Functions
Assist in identifying victim needs and provide recommendations to BCPAO/CAC staff and collaborating MDT partners for follow‑up actions.
Assist County Prosecutor and Deputy Prosecutors in preparing trial information, including serving as an expert witness on child forensic interview techniques.
Maintain current knowledge of Idaho Criminal Codes relevant to Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, Child Sexual Abuse, and other violent crimes.
Conduct child forensic interviews with children who are victims of physical and sexual abuse, using nationally recognized child interview protocols.
Maintain and improve forensic interview skills by attending peer review sessions at least twice annually, in compliance with NCA standards.
Serve on the Prosecution Office Multi‑Disciplinary Team, providing guidance to secure optimal outcomes in cases involving children.
Respond to emergency call‑outs 24/7, including nights, weekends, and holidays, for immediate response to child interview and victim needs.
Identify undiscovered evidence, information, witnesses, or clues through interviews with parents, caregivers, and family members of child victims.
Conduct regular interviews of crime victims, families, and others on‑scene, at the office, in hospitals, or other locations, to aid the investigative process and assess safety issues.
Document injuries and sensitive evidence for responding officers through photographs and measurements.
Work directly with prosecuting attorneys to obtain documents, recordings, reports, etc., from victims and/or other jurisdictions for use in criminal cases.
Identify violations of no‑contact orders, civil protection orders, and witness influencing or intimidation via routine monitoring of the TelMate jail system.
Provide emergency crisis intervention to adults and children who are victims of domestic violence and other types of crime, including safety planning, emergency housing, and referrals to community resources.
Serve as an advocate through the criminal justice process, including court appearances and communication with prosecutors, judges, and court personnel regarding victim needs.
Manage misdemeanor criminal case load according to the Idaho Crime Victim Statute.
Prepare victims and witnesses for court testimony and cross‑examination.
Perform case management activities, including developing case files in case‑management software and documenting contacts and services provided.
Coordinate with outside jurisdictions to arrange service of civil protection orders for the court.
