Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) is seeking a creative, forward-thinking, and dynamic Makerspace Senior Librarian to join the team at Chinn Park Regional Library. This is an exciting moment for Chinn Park as we embark on a major renovation that will introduce a brand-new Makerspace, a Small Business Development Center, and several enhanced services for our community.

This position is perfect for a librarian who wants to blend a passion for public service with creativity, hands‑on technology, and community learning. As the Makerspace Senior Librarian, you will play a key role in launching PWPL’s third Makerspace while continuing to provide exceptional library service to patrons.

The ideal candidate brings a strong commitment to public service, demonstrated supervisory experience, a background working in a Makerspace environment, and a genuine enthusiasm for teaching and empowering others.

About This Role

Supervise the part‑time Makerspace Librarian and Makerspace Assistant, actively participating in all personnel processes, including hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary procedures.

Serve as a key member of the branch management team and act as the person‑in‑charge one evening per week, on alternating weekends, and as needed.

Respond to patron concerns and ensure consistent enforcement of the library’s code of conduct.

Interpret and explain library policies and procedures to patrons in a clear and supportive manner.

Collaborate with Makerspace staff to design and deliver innovative programs, services, and classes for the community.

Oversee the Makerspace programming budget, including purchasing equipment and supplies needed to maintain and expand the space.

Track programming outcomes and prepare monthly Makerspace reports.

Provide high‑quality customer service at the integrated service desk, assisting patrons with circulation, reader’s advisory, reference questions, and technology support.

Partner with Management and Government Information Center (MAGIC) staff and the Calibrate Small Business Development Center to support local small business needs.

Identify and cultivate community outreach opportunities and partnerships that enhance the visibility and impact of the Chinn Park Makerspace.

Contribute to the system‑wide Makerspace team by offering insights and feedback on programs, services, policies, and procedures across PWPL Makerspaces.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree in library or information science and 1 year of related experience.

1 year of experience in a public library to include 1 year in a supervisory role.

Preferences

Three or more years of supervisory experience in a public library setting, including staff scheduling, coaching, performance management, and personnel processes.

Demonstrated experience in budget management, such as tracking expenditures, forecasting needs, and supporting fiscal decision‑making.

Experience planning, coordinating, and delivering programming and outreach for diverse age groups and community needs.

Customer service experience: including interpreting and communicating library policies, providing high‑quality public service, and effectively managing challenging or escalated situations.

Experience with facility operations, including opening and closing procedures, submitting and tracking maintenance requests, and contributing to the development or improvement of operational workflows.

Experience with collection maintenance, such as weeding, assessing collection needs, and supporting strategic collection development.

Special Requirements The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.

Work Schedule This is a full‑time, exempt 37.5 hours per week position. Hours are scheduled at Chinn Park Regional Library Monday through Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The schedule includes days, one evening per week, and alternating weekends as assigned. Scheduling flexibility is imperative. Schedule may vary depending on the needs of the library.

Hiring Salary Range $70,921.50 - 84,444.75
