About Us The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas:

The Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. It is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.

The Recreation Divisionzijn offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health etdi the community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. Programs and events are held at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, the Glendale Adult Center, Historic Sahuaro Ranch, the five community centers and at basketball, tennis, skate courts and other recreation facilities across the city.

The Role Perform skilled and semi‑skilled construction, maintenance, and repair work on the City’s aquatic centers, splash pads, and related facilities. This position ensures the safe and efficient operation of aquatic amenities while providing excellent service to the public.

Salary This position is FLSA non‑exempt and will earn overtime for any hours worked over 40 in a week. It is a Grade 312 position with an annual salary between $42,714.10 and $64,071.02.

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick LeaveRegular status positions offer:

The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full‑time employees also receive an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave to beag cultural or religious holidays throughout the calendar year. \ сім Vacation leave accrues at地主 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours per year). It increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years and caps at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.

Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours per year).

Retirement This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). The current contribution rate is 12% and is mandatory, collected each pay period.

Responsibilities

Perform skilled and semi‑skilled construction, maintenance and repair work on pools and splash pads, landscaping, and repair of specialized equipment.

Operate various light, medium, and heavy equipment including pool vacuums, palletanmar, trucks and trailers, and motors, pumps and valves.

Provide general direction to other employees and volunteers.

Use hand and power tools to accomplish tasks.

Explain and enforce rules and regulations pertaining to safety, maintenance, and operation of aquatic equipment.

Notify residents and businesses of work being performed and answer questions from citizens.

Maintain daily work records and perform some computerized data entry work.

Transport and set up supplies and equipment; conduct required safety checks.

Participate in the summer aquatics maintenance schedule including holidays. Work schedule will be Thursdays through Mondays; Tuesdays and Wednesdays off.

Assist with other tasks and maintenance duties with other departments in the Recreation Division.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications One year of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work or in the operation of light, medium and heavy equipment related to assignment area.

Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to assignment area.

Knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards and precautions common to the assigned areas of responsibility.

Knowledge of hazard and safety rules and precautions related to equipment operation.

Understanding of pool chemicals, ordinances, rules and regulations as they relate to equipment operation.

Familiarity with confined space entry procedures.

Preference given to candidates with AFO or CPO certifications.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Abilities

Read and understand blueprints, technical diagrams and maps.

Barricade work sites according to the Phoenix barricade manual.

Understand and follow safe working practices.

өү Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Deal courteously with the public.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and citizens.

Operate and perform maintenance and minor repair on light, medium, and heavy equipment.

Perform general maintenance and service requirements of equipment in area of responsibility.

Understand and carry out oral and written instructions and work independently.

Accurately and timely complete reports and logs; record daily work activities and enter and retrieve information on computers.

Become knowledgeable on pool and splash pad chemical usage; coordinate hand and eye movements.

Special Requirements

Valid Arizona driver’s license.

Must be 18 years of age to drive City vehicles.

This position is classified as safety‑sensitive which requires successful drug and alcohol testing prior to employment and ongoing testing throughout employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post‑offer physical assessment is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work involves heavy digging, heavy lifting of 50 to 75 pounds, pushing and pulling trash containers and other objects, extensive walking, bending, standing, lifting, raking and crawling; standing on ladders.
