Job Overview The Patient Access Senior Representative demonstrates strong customer service orientation while handling all business functions in an assigned area to include reception, scheduling and registering patients for appointments and/or procedures. The role includes greeting patients; securing appropriate patient information; ensuring that registration data is correct and accurate; validating insurance eligibility; entering information into appropriate systems; collecting co-pay (if applicable); and assisting with financial counseling and financial clearance, as necessary. This role performs all aspects of the Patient Access Rep position as needed.
Responsibilities
Provide patient access services in a self-directed manner to accomplish routine activities.
Cross cover all Patient access functions within the department and/or clinic.
Orient and train new hires to the service area.
Notify supervisor immediately of issues involving violation of VCUHS policies or procedures.
Handle access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies (if required).
Support essential staffing needs, including off-shifts, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum of one (1) year of previous patient scheduling/registration work experience in a healthcare setting.
Strong customer service skills with a patient/customer-centered focus in a positive manner.
High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or closely related field (preferred).
Ability to work off-shifts, weekends and holidays as required.
Physical & Mental Requirements
Lifting less than 20 lbs.
Prolonged sitting.
Walking (distance).
Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking.
Fast pace environment; able to handle multiple priorities and adapt to frequent change.
