Summary The Patient Access Counselor is responsible for facilitating a positive patient experience through friendly coordination and advocacy in reception, registration, scheduling, and other patient interactions during the stay at the facility. The role includes verifying insurance, providing financial counseling, cashiering, and ensuring non‑clinical needs of patients and families are addressed.

Responsibilities

Perform registration and pre‑registration for outpatient services, ensuring accurate medical records.

Assist in patient identification, collect demographic information, verify insurance coverage, and provide financial counseling.

Schedule appointments and procedures in accordance with established guidelines.

Collect and enter registration paperwork (e.g., COA, Medicare, Tricare, privacy notices) into the computer system with required signatures.

Promote accurate billing information and verify insurance cards or other required forms.

Maintain knowledge of payer regulations (ICD, CPT, HCPCS, etc.) and review billing files to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Interview patients and families to educate them on policies and standards set by YRMC, CMS, or other agencies.

Complete financial counseling and collection, determine charity care eligibility, and submit required documentation.

Review accounts for potential bad debt, initiate AHCCCS and Marketplace applications as needed.

Maintain work queues and ensure all patient encounters are documented in the electronic health record.

Complete insurance verification, authorization, and pre‑authorization processes, contacting third‑party payers as necessary.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum 2+ years of related experience.

High School Diploma or GED.

Arizona Fingerprint Clearance.
