The Nurse Clinician demonstrates a high level of expertise in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of complex patients and their responses to health problems. This role assists the health care team with illness and injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision. The Nurse Clinician provides direction, education, leadership, and accountability for program development, implementation, and evaluation in the area of responsibility. The role includes professional development and empowerment of staff as well as resource management to promote desired outcomes with attention to quality, efficiency, and cost.

Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Hire

Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state

Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Continued Employment

Current RN Licensure in Virginia

AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent

Experience REQUIRED

5 years nursing experience required

Minimum of one year experience in the position's specialty patient population or practice setting

Experience PREFERRED

Experience in staff education and professional development (orientation, preceptorship, in‑services education, etc.)

Academic health care experience

Education/training REQUIRED Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Must be enrolled in a Master’s degree program at the time of application and must be completed within 36 months of hire. Special consideration will be given for applicants enrolled in Baccalaureate to Doctoral programs who will not attain a Master’s degree and may require longer than 36 months to complete the terminal degree.

Education/training PREFERRED Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field. If the master’s degree is not in Nursing, then it is required to have a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.

Independent Action(s) Required

Has full authority and accountability for direction and leadership of program planning, guideline development, setting of practice standards within the confines of organizations/divisions/units mission, goals and objectives.

Manages human, fiscal and other resources to ensure quality programs/processes/services with measurable positive outcomes.

Supervisory Responsibilities (if Applicable) Negotiable with immediate supervisor in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.

Additional Position Requirements

Will generally work day shift, but may require flexibility for special projects or to meet organization and staff needs.

Age Specific groups served: As appropriate based on unit assignment.

Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs. Lifting 50-100 lbs.

Activities: Prolonged standing, Prolonged sitting, Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive)

Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking
