Responsibilities

Adhere to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.

Follow quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate.

Identify problems that may affect test performance and either correct them or notify supervisor, Director, or Medical Director.

Perform waived or highly and moderately complex laboratory procedures using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunology.

Perform and document maintenance—daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed on instruments and equipment as appropriate.

Review the accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting.

Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.

Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples; collaborate with other laboratories only after reporting results.

May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics.

Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.

Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.

In the absence of a supervisor, may serve as Lead Tech, responsible for the section or department during shift.

Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.

Qualifications

Current and valid state license if the laboratory is located in a state where required.

ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred.

Associate’s degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.

1 year of hospital laboratory work experience preferred.

Estimated compensation for this role is $19.00 to $27.52 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined at hiring based on factors such as skill set, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
