The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Child Support Services Division.
The Payment Processing Specialist is responsible for the accurate identification, analysis, and posting of child support collections. This role ensures that financial transactions are processed efficiently and in compliance with state and federal regulations. The Specialist manages the full lifecycle of a payment—from initial imaging and data entry to reconciliation and final deposit—while acting as a key point of contact for payment-related inquiries.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity
Skilled in 10‑key data entry, Microsoft Excel, and ability to work in specialized financial software.
Working knowledge of accounting principles, specifically regarding payment reconciliation and deposit preparation.
Ability to analyze complex payment data, identify errors, and determine the appropriate corrective action independently.
Ability to explain complex child‑support regulations and procedures to the general public and external stakeholders in a clear, professional manner.
Proven ability to work under strict deadlines and manage high‑volume workloads with minimal supervision.
Exceptional accuracy in data entry and financial record‑keeping.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all participant information and financial records, in accordance with state and federal laws.
Demonstrate a high level of integrity and honesty in handling financial instruments and reconciling accounts; ensure all actions are transparent and auditable.
Work effectively as part of a team, provide backup support to colleagues, and contribute to a positive, solution‑oriented work environment.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Two years of experience in data entry, bookkeeping, banking, or high‑volume accounts receivable/payable.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
Prior experience with State of Montana data software and experience operating scanning equipment.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.
This position is open until filled with frequent screening of applicants. The first screening of candidates will take place on January 20, 2026.
