Tarrant County
Provide management of the day-to-day operations of the repair and maintenance of on-road and off-road equipment assigned to the Precinct Maintenance Center. Oversee the work production, quantity and quality of work completed; schedule work assignments, assign hours and work locations. This position may also train and/or evaluate employees; handle difficult problems; develop and document program and curriculum; monitor departmental resources; and ensure compliance with policies and laws.

Directly responsible for the management of departmental/work unit staff.
Provides training to staff members as required.
Plans, assigns and is responsible for the workload and schedules of team/work unit members.
Evaluates performance of subordinates and identifies strengths/weaknesses, provides employee development guidance and motivation, or makes recommendations for replacement when appropriate.
Provides technical assistance to mechanics and may perform actual mechanic work as necessary.
Coordinates activities with other departments to expedite work and improve performance.
Performs quality reviews/audits of department's work and makes operational corrections as necessary.
Establishes and enforces procedures to expedite and improve processes.
Participates in personnel matters including disciplinary actions and resolution of departmental disputes.
Oversees maintenance of facility and administers a worker safety program.
Ensures use and storage of hazardous materials is in compliance with regulations and policies.
Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Precinct as assigned or required.
TO APPLY Must have an Associate’s degree or higher + Three (3) full-time years of related work experience. OR Must have a High School diploma or GED + Five (5) full-time years of related work experience.
Must have an advanced knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems.
Thorough knowledge of road construction and maintenance.
Extensive knowledge of equipment maintenance programs, preventative maintenance, fleet management and tracking and scheduling of preventative maintenance.
Knowledge of diesel engines and on- and off-road maintenance procedures.
A Class A CDL with a combination tanker and hazmat endorsement is required for all positions that involve the operation of tank vehicles in the transport of hazardous material as defined by federal regulations within six (6) months of hire.
If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment at New Hire Processing or during the promotional process.
Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, lift, push and pull.
