We’re seeking a hands‑on, strategic
Controller
to own and lead all aspects of accounting and financial reporting across our client’s real‑estate portfolio, investment programs, and management company.
This high‑impact leadership role is for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented environment. The
Controller
will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, maintaining GAAP and regulatory compliance, and strengthening internal controls as the platform continues to scale.
In this role, you’ll lead both internal accounting teams and external service providers while partnering closely with senior leadership on financial strategy, budgeting, investor reporting, property accounting, tax compliance, and operational growth across all investment programs.
Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Compliance
Oversee preparation and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Ensure full compliance with all regulatory and tax reporting requirements.
Coordinate and manage annual audits, tax filings, and related reporting processes.
Accounting Operations
Lead and manage the accounting function, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and property‑level accounting.
Implement and monitor robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and streamline processes.
Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
Real Estate Portfolio Accounting
Oversee property‑level accounting processes, including income recognition and expense allocations.
Review acquisition and disposition entries, purchase price allocations, and gain/loss recognition.
Collaborate with Asset Management and Investment teams to deliver accurate, timely property performance reporting.
Strategic Leadership & Team Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing accounting team through clear goals, training, and professional development.
Partner with the CFO and senior leadership on financial strategy, budgeting, and risk management.
Champion process improvement, automation, and system implementation to drive operational excellence.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Asset Management, Operations, and Acquisitions teams to support business initiatives and strategic growth.
Provide financial and accounting expertise during acquisitions, due diligence, and deal structuring.
Qualifications Education & Certification
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.
Experience
12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
Prior experience in real‑estate investment or real‑estate private equity is required.
Strong understanding of real‑estate investment accounting, property‑level performance reporting, and transactional accounting.
In‑depth knowledge of GAAP, real‑estate financial reporting standards, and internal control frameworks.
Skills
Proven leadership and team management abilities.
Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Proficiency in accounting and real‑estate software (Yardi preferred).
Advanced Excel and financial analysis capabilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Strategic mindset with the ability to balance hands‑on execution and long‑term vision.
