A mission‑driven consulting firm is hiring a Staff Accountant to join its Arlington, VA office and support the financial operations of a rapidly growing government contracting firm. This role is hands‑on and highly visible, supporting month‑end close, AP/AR, budgeting, and financial reporting while working directly with a collaborative, coach‑style Controller based in the DC area. Staff Accountant Responsibilities
Support the month‑end and year‑end close to accelerate close timelines
Process approximately 30‑40 AP invoices and 15 AR invoices weekly
Perform account reconciliations and maintain accurate financial statements
Track budgets and ensure invoices align with contracts and cost structures
Assist with forecasting and financial analysis
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls
Support audits and respond to time‑sensitive requests with confidence
Use Excel extensively for reconciliations and reporting (formulas required)
Cross‑train across accounting functions to expand technical exposure
Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and documentation
What They’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (required)
2–3+ years of AP/AR and GAAP accounting experience
Strong understanding of debits, credits, reconciliations, and financial statements
Advanced Excel skills (formulas required; pivot tables and VLOOKUPs a plus)
Unanet ERP experience highly preferred
Government contracting / GovCon accounting experience preferred
Detail‑oriented, polished, and professional communicator
Self‑starter who takes ownership and follows through
Team player with a positive attitude who thrives in a collaborative environment
