Financial Counselor – OLG – Lafayette
Ochsner Health invites applicants for the Financial Counselor – OLG – Lafayette role. This position focuses on assisting patients with all billing inquiries across the organization, ensuring a positive and efficient patient experience.
Responsibilities
Assist patients face‑to‑face, via email, fax, mail, and phone regarding billing inquiries and account status.
Act as liaison among patients, providers, and external departments to guarantee accurate charge application, transaction recording, and timely resolution of discrepancies.
Obtain necessary authorizations and provide accurate estimates for upcoming procedures.
Prioritize tasks and educate patients on the importance of financial responsibility.
Present available assistance options and explain the financial impact of alternatives.
Deliver Best‑in‑Class service to maintain high patient satisfaction.
Represent Ochsner with professionalism and competence, resolving issues promptly and accurately.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications Education
Required – High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred – Bachelor’s degree.
Experience
Required – 1 year of customer service, healthcare, or office experience.
Preferred – Previous healthcare billing/collections/customer service experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Computer data entry and retrieval skills.
Effective verbal and written communication; ability to present information clearly to all levels.
Proficiency with Windows applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and role‑specific software.
Strong interpersonal and multitasking abilities.
Ability to perform effectively in a fast‑paced, constantly evolving environment.
Calm demeanor in high‑pressure or stressful financial conversations.
Independent decision‑making with minimal supervision.
Reliable transportation for travel to other facilities as needed.
Physical and Environmental Demands The job is primarily sedentary, with occasional lifting up to 10 lb. Exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications is possible due to workplace setting. Employees must meet these demands or have reasonable accommodations.
