Recreation Leader $16.90 - $19.56/hour Recreation Crew Leader $18.63 - $20.45/hour Recreation Leaders Recreation Leaders are required to provide leadership and conduct various recreation activities including planning, organizing and implementing special events.

Recreation Crew Leaders Recreation Crew Leaders may be required to supervise recreation leaders. They conduct various recreation activities and are involved in the development of programs and interactions with parents. They must have a basic understanding of programs and be able to communicate related policies and procedures to staff and the general public.

Recreation Leader

Conduct and supervise activities at assigned recreation sites and programs.

Officiate and/or scorekeep youth/adult sport activities according to league schedules and check and provide equipment when needed.

Check sport fields and recreation sites for possible safety hazards throughout activity and maintain same; clean up and secure facility and equipment at completion of the event. Conduct and log swimming pool chemical readings, complete facility opening, closing and operational procedures checklists.

Work with individuals with disabilities to facilitate participation in specialized programs.

May be required to perform CPR, First Aid and Basic Water Rescue as deemed necessary.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Recreation Crew Leader

Conduct and supervise activities at assigned recreation sites and programs.

Supervise specific recreation programs on-site and supervise the Recreation Leaders and Recreation Specialists involved in those programs.

Respond to concerns of volunteers, staff, and participants, and communicate program progress to immediate supervisor.

Assist supervisor with on‑site administration of program and act as supervisor in his/her absence.

Assist with developing, supervising and evaluating programs and facility/center.

May be required to perform CPR, First Aid and Basic Water Rescue as deemed necessary.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Recreation Leader

Knowledge of appropriate sport rules and regulations

Knowledge of children's recreation games and activities

Knowledge of field layout and standards and required equipment

Ability to interact effectively with the public, including coaches, teams, players, parents, spectators, and other employees

Ability to function in a high‑energy environment and provide quality customer service to clients of all Recreation Division programs

Ability to conduct all games, matches, and activities according to prescribed rules and regulations.

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements: Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Typical education would include a high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment as a student; and some experience or program specific knowledge in the assigned activity.

Typical experience would include some experience as a participant, coach, official, or advisor in the assigned activity.

Possession of the appropriate California driver's license is highly desirable, but not required.

When assigned as a Camp Counselor, you must obtain Basic First Aid certification and CPR (adult, child and infant) and Basic Water Rescue certification within 60 days of hiring.

When assigned to the Aquatic Center, must possess valid Basic First Aid certification and CPR (adult, child and infant). Basic Water Rescue certification is highly desirable.

When assigned to food‑service responsibilities, the employee must possess and maintain a valid California Food Handler Card.

Recreation Crew Leader

Typical education would include a high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment as a student.

Typical experience would include a minimum of one year of experience in assigned area of responsibility with demonstrated leadership skills.

Possession of the appropriate California driver's license is highly desirable, but not required.

Selection Process: Final appointment is contingent upon:

Positive past employment references (if applicable)

Passing a city paid fingerprinting criminal conviction check (applicants 18 years and older)

Passing a TB test and drug and alcohol screening test

Veteran's Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD‑214 to their application indicating Honorable Discharge from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
