The Schegistrar schedules, registers, verifies pre‑authorization and referrals, confirms and maintains patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries, and/or medical consultations for VCUHS.
The Schegistrar accurately obtains required information for hospital and physician records, governmental requirements, billing and third‑party payer needs, and provides courteous and efficient services to patients while accurately documenting/verifying patient pre‑registration information with the care team.
Responsibilities
Schedules, registers, verifies pre‑authorization and referrals, confirms and maintains patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries, and medical consultations.
Obtains required information for hospital and physician records, governmental requirements, billing and third‑party payer needs.
Provides courteous and efficient services to patients and accurately documents and verifies patient pre‑registration information.
Assists VCUHS Patient Revenue Cycle Department to obtain maximum and timely reimbursement.
Provides patients with information regarding VCUHS policy and procedures and directs them to appropriate nursing units or ancillary service locations.
May work hours past normal shift hours as necessary to resolve backlog or contact patients for registration data.
Qualifications
Experience Required:
Strong customer service skills and patient‑centered focus in a positive manner in all situations.
Experience Preferred:
Minimum of two (2) years previous experience with third‑party medical insurance, HMO, managed care; experience with CPT and ICD‑10 coding; work experience using GE/IDX, Cerner.
Education/Training Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Education/Training Preferred:
Associate Degree in Business Management or a closely related field from an accredited program; post‑high‑school education in healthcare or medical billing coursework.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift less than 20 lbs, prolonged sitting, reaching overhead, repetitive motion, prolonged keyboard usage; strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speaking, legible writing, reading, logical thinking; capacity to concentrate/focus and handle a fast‑paced environment with frequent customer interactions.
