Maintenance Worker - Parks

To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of grounds, open spaces, parks, and related facilities. Also, assists with water, sewer, street, drainage and facilities related activities when necessary.

Organizational Relationships:

1. Reports to: Parks and Recreation Manager

2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.

3. Other: Has some contact with other city employees and the general public.

Essential Job Functions & Duties

Maintains all parks and recreation facilities, equipment, amenities, and grounds, including sports fields, courts, and playgrounds.

Performs minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete work, painting, and landscaping.

Assists in performing tree-care maintenance in parks, open spaces, along trails, and in other City properties as needed.

Calibrates and maintains irrigation sprinklers.

Collects and disposes of litter and debris.

Cleans restrooms, common areas, and seating areas, within park and recreation facilities as needed.

Assists in performing turf maintenance in and around streets, parks, trails, and facilities.

Set up and break down for special and recreation events as needed.

Responds to emergency calls during and after regular work hours.

Fulfills daily maintenance call requests/requirements from City staff.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements Knowledge of:

Maintenance Principles:

processes involved in upkeep of parks property and equipment to the optimum state of cleanliness, repair, and efficiency.

Vegetation:

characteristics and upkeep requirements of turf, trees, and plants used in municipal parks and landscaping.

Basic Math:

add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly.

Skill/Ability to:

Cooperation:

establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Accuracy:

attention to detail in dealing with numbers, words, and ideas.

Mechanical/Technical:

safely operating diverse lawn and landscaping equipment, including mowers, tractors, chainsaw, edger, weed trimmers, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers; miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance, carpentry, painting and cement finishing work.

Education and Experience High school graduation plus one year of related experience.

Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certifications and Licenses Required Appropriate, valid class "C" commercial Texas driver's license. Class "B" CDL preferred.
