Job Title:
Junior Dietitian – Hospital Food Service
Department:
Nutrition and Dietetics / Dietary Service
Reports To:
Senior Dietitian / Chief Dietitian
The Junior Dietitian assists in planning, implementing, and monitoring hospital dietary services to ensure that patients receive safe, nutritious, and medically appropriate meals. This role supports menu planning, diet counseling, and food service operations while ensuring compliance with nutrition standards and hospital policies.
Clinical & Patient Care
Assist in assessing patients’ nutritional needs based on medical records, physician’s orders, and diet prescriptions.
Provide nutrition education and diet counseling to patients and their families under supervision.
Monitor patient meal intake and report deviations or special needs to the Senior Dietitian.
Ensure accurate translation of diet orders into daily meal service.
Food Service & Operations
Support menu planning and recipe standardization to meet therapeutic and normal diet requirements.
Oversee meal preparation and portioning to ensure accuracy, taste, and presentation.
Conduct regular meal rounds to check patient satisfaction and compliance with prescribed diets.
Work with kitchen staff and food attendants to ensure proper execution of diet instructions.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure adherence to hospital food safety, sanitation, and infection control standards.
Monitor food service operations for compliance with GMP, HACMP, and hospital policies.
Participate in quality improvement activities, audits, and reporting related to dietary services.
Administrative Support
Assist in maintaining diet cards, patient diet lists, and meal production records.
Help in preparing reports, documentation, and data required by the Nutrition and Dietetics Department.
Participate in staff training and orientation on diet and food service standards.
Work Conditions
Hospital-based, working closely with dietary staff, nurses, and medical teams.
May require shifting schedules, including weekends and holidays, depending on hospital needs.
Combination of office, kitchen, and ward-based work.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.
Must be a
Registered Nutritionist-Dietitian (RND) .
Preferably with
experience in hospital dietary or food service
(entry-level or OJT experience acceptable).
Knowledge of therapeutic diets, nutrition care process, and hospital food service systems.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to patient care and food safety standards.
