Youth Advocate – Sexual Violence (Case Manager)
Purpose : Provide comprehensive services to assist youth (ages 0-24) and survivors of sexual violence and human sex trafficking through crisis and toward self-sufficiency in residential and community settings.
Job Type : Full‑time, Salary – Monday through Friday, 11 am–7 pm.
Expectations of Every YWCA Staff Member : Uphold and promote the YWCA mission; maintain compliance with state standards; adhere to policies and procedures; contribute to fund‑development; support other departments and staff.
Essential Duties
Work directly with youth victims and survivors of sexual assault by providing support, comprehensive advocacy, and connection to resources.
Provide support to non‑offending parents of survivors including advocacy, parenting education, and connection to resources.
Provide case management based on client‑centered needs and goals; observe client daily‑living skills; redirect/teach skills where needed.
Facilitate education on healthy/unhealthy relationships, life skills, and tools for self‑sufficiency and stability.
Facilitate support groups for survivors of sexual violence and non‑offending parents.
Work with first responders (Emergency Rooms, Law Enforcement, etc.) to ensure survivors receive respectful and appropriate services.
Help clients navigate resources, legal processes, prepare protective orders, and safety plans.
Provide emotional support, referring to mental‑health services when appropriate.
Work closely with other advocates and YWCA residential staff.
Collaborate with other service providers and/or stakeholders to obtain referrals into the program.
Refer clients, according to their specific needs, to appropriate community resources and advocate on their behalf.
Participate in coordinated efforts through SART teams and task forces.
Maintain accurate and appropriate records.
Participate in marketing efforts of the program.
Listen and assist clients with options as issues arise; create and maintain high‑quality work environment.
Transport clients in personal vehicle, as needed.
Travel throughout the YWCA Northeast Indiana service area to provide services and network with other providers.
Participate in on‑call rotation to ensure support is available outside business hours.
Other duties as assigned to meet the organization's goals.
Requirements Education
Bachelor's in Social Work, Human Services, or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
CPR and First Aid certification within first year of employment.
Core 40 Sexual Assault Victim Advocate training within 6 months of employment.
Knowledge and Experience
Knowledge of trauma including sexual abuse, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, and human‑trafficking issues and patterns and their effects on men, women, and children.
Experience working with youth and understanding approaches based on developmental levels.
Proven ability to effectively and respectfully interact with all populations using trauma‑informed approaches.
Experience in crisis intervention, networking, team building, and public speaking.
Strong customer service skills with ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of people; unequivocal commitment to pluralism.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive matters.
Strong time‑management skills; ability to take initiative to solve problems and work with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
1–3 years of general office experience, including reception and telephone duties.
1–3 years of experience with general office equipment (copiers, printers).
Accurate, organized, and detail‑oriented; ability to work under pressure and shift priorities in response to changing needs.
Must comply with organization’s auto‑insurance policy: have a valid driver’s license and personal automobile insurance coverage.
Flexibility to change work hours as needed.
Physical/Mental Essential Requirements
Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to 30 pounds).
Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination.
Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
Must drive personal vehicle frequently within the 6‑county service area.
Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods.
Occasional need to stand for long periods.
Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product.
Work primarily in a non‑smoking office environment combined with remote/community‑based work; travel may expose employee to inclement weather.
Occasional high stress may be experienced dealing with clients, staff, and volunteers.
Salary: $42,000–$45,000 annually.
