Job Description Summary:
Collects, processes, and stores biological specimens for laboratory testing and research purposes. Does not perform hypothesis-based research or analysis on the biospecimens – serves as a supporting role to facilitate research.
Essential Functions
Collects, processes, and stores biological specimens according to established protocols and standard operating procedures.
Maintains accurate records of specimen collection, processing, and storage.
Ensures that specimens are properly labeled and tracked throughout the collection and storage process.
Performs quality control checks on specimens to ensure that they meet established standards.
Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies, and orders new supplies as needed.
Communicates with other laboratory staff and researchers to ensure that specimens are collected and processed in a timely and efficient manner.
Education Requirement
Bachelor's of Science or equivalent certification and experience, required.
Coursework in anatomy, physiology, statistics, and relevant research methods, preferred.
Skills
Organizational skills, attention to detail, and computer experience.
Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to change manner of communication styles to adapt to various cultural and work-style differences.
Ability to maintain and foster interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers.
Ability to work efficiently independently and collaboratively.
Ability to adjust to change, handle interruptions, and function with changing circumstances.
Experience Two years of laboratory research experience or equivalent, required.
Physical Requirements Occasionally: Bend/twist, climb stairs/ladder, lift/carry 11–20 lbs, push/pull 26–40 lbs.
Frequently: Lift/carry 0–10 lbs, push/pull 0–25 lbs, standing, walking.
Continuously: Audible speech, color vision, computer skills, decision making, depth perception, flexing/extending of neck, hand use: grasping, gripping, turning, hearing acuity, interpreting data, peripheral vision, problem solving, reaching above shoulder, repetitive hand/arm use, seeing – far/near, sitting, squat/kneel.
