Center Store Ops Specialist – Safeway JOB TITLE: Operations Sales Specialist (Department) PHYSICAL LOCATION: Division Offices DEPARTMENT: Division Operations REPORTS TO: District Manager FLSA: Exempt

Purpose Monitors, enforces, and supports execution of the division merchandising plan for their department in assigned stores.

Major Job Responsibilities

Travels to assigned stores and works with the Department Manager and staff to share merchandising plans and meet sales, gross, and labor targets.

Works with and counsels department managers and store directors in all aspects of product merchandising and customer service.

Visits stores and evaluates overall department presentation, cleanliness, and compliance to company policy and procedures.

Develops and maintains training programs to ensure qualified associates fill department positions.

Participates in departmental and divisional sales meetings.

Oversees shrink, food safety and sanitation, departmental sales, labor, and gross profit reporting from assigned stores.

Implements new merchandising programs and strategies and ensures staff is properly trained.

Monitors competitor activities.

Assists in opening new and remodeled stores.

Provides merchandising input back to Division Sales Managers and Assistant Sales Managers.

Accountabilities

Measures store level performance through department sales, gross profit and labor percent.

Executes plans measured through store visits, reviewing results, and observing conditions.

Determines success of training programs by reviewing evaluations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Bachelor's degree in business or related field and/or previous experience in merchandising of assigned product area and retail sales.

Previous Department Manager and Store Director experience.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; deals effectively with variety of people in person and over the phone.

Marketing orientation, good analytical and problem‑solving abilities.

Proficiency in mathematics for straightforward analysis.

Leadership skills with ability to lead and motivate others without direct supervision.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Most work performed in temperature‑controlled environment.

May sit for long periods at desk or computer terminal.

Uses calculators, keyboards, telephone, and office equipment.

Store visits involve standing, walking, climbing stairs, and movement around machinery and hazardous equipment.

Requires stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching.

May involve travel up to 75%, including occasional weekend travel.

Workday fast paced and stressful.

Supervisory and Managerial Responsibilities

Provides work guidance to store associates in product knowledge, sales and marketing techniques, profit and loss understanding, and compliance with company policies.

Trains department managers on basics of business and departmental management.

Provides input to Store Director on Store Department Manager evaluation.
