Education and Experience
Associate's degree (business, public administration, computer science, criminal justice, social/behavioral science, or related) + 3 years of public safety experience + 1 year supervisory experience.
High School diploma or GED + 6 years public safety experience + 2 years supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certificates
American Heart Association CPR Health Provider (or equivalent).
Basic First Aid.
Basic Telecommunicator certification from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
Requirements Maintain all required licenses and certificates within 1 year of appointment and annually thereafter. Must be a current U.S. citizen, pass a drug screening, psychological examination, and background investigation as required by TCOLE licensure.
Responsibilities
Assist in management of Emergency Communications Division operations and oversee human‑resources administrative functions for the assigned shift.
Supervise daily emergency communications operations, oversee emergency and non‑emergency calls, radio activity, and computer dispatch functions.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all calls for service.
Perform shift supervisor duties during absences to maintain continuity of operations.
Monitor communications systems, troubleshoot minor problems, notify technicians of failures, and maintain office security.
Review documentation and records for accuracy and completeness; brief officials on major public‑service emergencies.
Research, investigate, and follow up on citizen and interdepartmental complaints regarding public‑safety communications.
Advise the supervisor on situations that could affect expected results and recommend solutions.
Oversee special projects as assigned.
Perform human‑resources administrative functions: liaise between management and staff, manage personnel matters, provide guidance, monitor work progress, enforce policies, facilitate conflict resolution, review performance appraisals, and ensure timely payroll processing.
Coordinate and administer telecommunications training programs; assess staff training needs.
Represent the Emergency Communications Division: provide technical information, interpret policies, respond to inquiries, represent the City at meetings, and interact with other departments and the public.
Supervise assigned staff: schedule, assign, instruct, check work, appraise performance, provide training, enforce standards, counsel, motivate, interview applicants, and recommend hiring or personnel changes.
