Under the programmatic guidance of the Regional Nutrition Extension Associate, the EFNEP Program Assistant works with clients in group settings and individually (as needed). This full-time, 40‑hour per week position serves 100% 4-H Youth Programming. Youth Programming takes place at schools and informal educational settings with 4‑H and community partner organizations, typically involving 2nd to 12th‑grade students.

Essential Job Duties Distribute nutrition education to limited‑resource youth. Recruit and enroll school‑aged youth into the program, conduct teaching visits and food demonstrations, maintain program records, market the program, recruit volunteers, and collaborate with local Cooperative Extension staff and agencies.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Travel within county, district, and state using a personal vehicle.

Develop a comprehensive understanding of NCCE’s role as an educational agency.

Recruit limited‑resource school‑aged youth meeting federal eligibility.

Instruct eligible youth using approved curricula and teaching methods.

Conduct food demonstrations to youth groups.

Collect and submit required data and reports to RNEA, EFNEP State office, and CED.

Maintain confidentiality of program information.

Coordinate with agencies to extend program outreach and establish partnerships.

Participate in professional development trainings; occasional overnight travel may be required.

Attend EFNEP meetings and trainings within and outside the county.

Enhance program visibility by communicating impacts to stakeholders and participants.

Promote educational opportunities beyond EFNEP within Cooperative Extension and partners.

Recruit, train, and utilize volunteers for marketing, data collection, and delivery.

Meet established programmatic standards for performance and impact.

Other duties as assigned; travel within county, district, and state is required.

Qualifications Minimum requirement: high‑school diploma or equivalent.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating concepts.

Knowledge of community and social service programs for limited‑resource youth.

Experience teaching and/or working with limited‑resource youth and/or nutrition education preferred.

Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation required; must be maintained.

Valid North Carolina driver’s license within 60 days of hire.

Schedule Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Business hours – evenings and weekends as required.
