Position Summary Perform screening and phlebotomy procedures at mobile blood drives or BBAK locations as assigned. Work with team members to provide a safe, professional donation environment while following all protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Donor Screening Responsibilities
Register potential blood donors using the BECS program.
Review Donor History Forms for completeness; evaluate medical history for suitability and consult with RN/Medical Director as needed.
Take vital signs; perform finger‑stick for hematocrit.
Conduct confidential interviews and instruct donors on the Interview Response Section and Life Trak.
Ensure donors understand pre‑ and post‑donation instructions.
Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly quality control procedures per SOPs.
Serve as a resource for donor inquiries.
Maintain a clean, orderly work area and restock supplies.
Keep all donor and personnel information confidential.
Represent BBAK professionally at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Primary Phlebotomy Responsibilities
Perform phlebotomy procedures on donors per SOPs and training.
Maintain aseptic work area; sterilize instruments per SOP.
Restock supplies required for phlebotomy.
Perform quality control procedures per SOP.
Maintain confidentiality of donor and personnel data.
Primary Team Member Responsibilities
Participate as an active team member, communicating positively with Team Leads and the Collections Manager.
Engage in all aspects of team duties, including registration, screening, phlebotomy, and donor recruitment.
Follow cGMP principles, AABB Standards, OSHA guidelines, and BBAK SOPs at all times.
Customer Interaction / Problem Solving Maintain a high standard of courteous, enthusiastic service. Prioritize customer needs in face‑to‑face or telephone contact, delivering service timely and professionally. Demonstrate strong problem‑solving skills and follow direction.
Qualification Requirements Stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Maintain donor and personnel confidentiality.
Provide excellent customer service.
Work effectively as part of a team.
Pay attention to detail.
Represent BBAK professionally at all times.
Proficient in BBA collection procedures as trained.
Education High School Diploma required; completion of a relevant certification program acceptable.
Experience No experience required. Prior experience in a blood bank or phlebotomy in a medical setting preferred; experience with Apheresis/Dialysis would be an advantage.
Certificates, Licenses, etc. Preferred: National Phlebotomy Certification, Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or EMT. Other certifications considered individually. Driver’s license required.
Work Environment Potential hazard due to exposure to blood; workplace follows OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standards. Hours vary with blood drives; irregular schedule with occasional long hours.
