Powerhouse Theater - Seeking Company Manager Powerhouse Theater seeks a Company Manager for the 2026 Powerhouse Season. Celebrating the 40th Anniversary Season in 2026, Vassar College partners with various artists and theater institutions to produce a summer season of new plays and musical on its campus in Poughkeepsie, NY. Simultaneously, the Powerhouse Theater Training Program is in session, providing aspiring theater professionals a chance to immerse themselves in acting, directing and playwriting. Company Manager Job Description Reports to : Producing Directors

Supervises : Associate Company Manager, Company Management Assistants

Dates : May 18 - June 2 (part time, remote), June 3 - July 31 (full time, in person in Poughkeepsie)

Salary : $6,000-$7,000 for the season, based on experience

Additional Benefits : Shared housing in campus apartment (private bedroom with shared bathroom and living space), meal plan in Vassar College’s dining hall (3 meals per day), round‑trip travel reimbursement from New York City, free tickets to Powerhouse shows (as available)

About Powerhouse Theater at Vassar College Celebrating the 40th Anniversary Season in 2026, Powerhouse Theater (Ed Cheetham, Michael Sheehan, Producing Directors) is dedicated to both emerging and established artists in the development and production of new works. For six weeks every summer, the Powerhouse Theater Program comes to life on the Vassar College campus to provide a nurturing environment in which passionate theater lovers from students to professional practitioners and audience members learn from one another. The Powerhouse Theater Training Program provides aspiring theater professionals a chance to immerse themselves in acting, directing, and playwriting. The program’s Training Program also offers free performances throughout the season. The Powerhouse program, along with its partner theater institutions and individual artists, creates a crucial community—one that gives time, space and voice to artists of the American theater.

Job Summary The Company Manager is responsible for the day‑to‑day hospitality of all staff and visiting artists. Reporting to the Producing Directors, the Company Manager coordinates arrivals, on‑campus housing, meal plans, shopping trips, and other social events and celebrations throughout the season. The Company Manager is a senior‑level, highly visible position and should serve as an ambassador for Powerhouse Theater, Vassar College, and our collective ethos. Although the Company Manager focuses mostly on the professional season and the Associate Company Manager focuses mostly on the Training Program and their season, there are moments in which both Company Managers will assist each other as needs arise. An ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, project management capabilities, and is excited about juggling multiple responsibilities at once in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

Ensure all staff, faculty and artists feel welcome and comfortable during their time at Powerhouse, going above and beyond to ensure everyone has what they need to have the most successful time possible during their residency

Collaborate with Vassar College Office of Residential Life to oversee housing allocations for the summer

Manage key and swipe card distribution to all staff, students, and visiting artists

Oversee housing assignments for all staff, faculty and artists through the “housing matrix”

Coordinate with storage and rental vendors to ensure furniture, linens, kitchenware, and supplies are properly set up in all housing units

Serve as point person for all staff, faculty and artist arrivals, coordinating with Company Management Assistants to welcome everyone to campus, pick up at the train station (if needed), and get everyone settled and welcomed into their assigned housing

Organize changeover schedule of housing units between projects

Set up and maintain hospitality stations in all rehearsal rooms and theatres with coffee, tea, snacks, throat lozenges, and other treats as needed

Manage consumable stock of housing supplies (laundry detergent, paper towels, light bulbs, etc)

Manage an “on call” schedule with the Associate Company Manager for late night emergencies, lockouts, etc.

Check out all staff, faculty and artists upon their departure, retrieving keys and swipe cards

Communicate any housing needs to the Vassar College office of Facility Operations or troubleshooter on duty

Retrieve and log packages and mail from Central Receiving and distribute to the recipient

Oversee company management budget, tracking all expenses and logging all invoices / receipts.

Serve as point person for the health and safety of all Powerhouse participants, including stocking and distributing first aid kits throughout our rehearsal/performance venues and supporting individuals find and receive medical attention, as necessary

Oversee the creation and distribution of welcome packets, including the compilation of Vassar specific information, rules and regulations, as well as Poughkeepsie area amenities and points of interest.

Organize trips to the grocery store, Target, etc as needed for artists, faculty and staff

Serve as lead organizer on company‑wide celebrations and parties, ensuring we have food, drinks, ice, music, lighting, tables, linens, and anything else as needed

Work collaboratively with Associate Company Manager, assisting them as needed

Train and manage the schedules and priorities of the Company Management Assistants

Other duties as assigned
