Grinding Machinist
Join Jagemann’s precision tool room as a Machinist specializing in grinding operations, where you will operate advanced grinding equipment to achieve ultra‑tight tolerances on critical tooling components. The role requires expertise in surface, cylindrical, and form grinding, wheel selection, dressing techniques, and maintaining sub‑micron accuracy on hardened materials in a temperature‑controlled environment.
Responsibilities
Set up and operate manual and precision grinding machines to process parts per customer specifications.
Set up, program, and operate CNC lathes and other CNC equipment to produce precision tooling.
Plan work sequences, determine cutting parameters (feeds, speeds, depths), and troubleshoot machining operations.
Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy and maintain surface finish specifications.
Write and edit CNC programs and calculate dimensional relationships for machine controllers.
Develop custom holding fixtures and “soft” jaws for non‑standard parts.
Select appropriate cutting tools, maintain tool inventory, and sharpen non‑insert tools.
Perform preventive maintenance on CNC equipment.
Machine various materials, including hardened steels and exotic materials such as carbide.
Train and mentor CNC operators and apprentices, and provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support.
Maintain clean, organized work areas, follow Environmental Health & Safety procedures, and collaborate with vendors on parts and tooling needs.
Qualifications
High school diploma plus specialized machine operation and metalworking training.
Mazak programming certification.
Partial completion of Machine Tool Operation curriculum (company‑specified).
CAD/CAM and Solutionware training completion.
1–3 years of diversified toolroom and machining experience.
Proficiency in CNC lathe operation and setup.
Strong understanding of machining characteristics for various materials.
Ability to work to close tolerances with attention to detail.
Knowledge of Environmental Health & Safety procedures.
