Education
H.S. Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
Associate’s degree in Health Information or related health field (Preferred)
Other Cancer Registry Management Program (Preferred)
Experience
6 Months Cancer Registry experience (Preferred)
No experience with Cancer Registry Management Program completion (Preferred)
Cancer Registry abstracting experience (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
ODS - Oncology Data Specialist (3 Years Required)
ODS-C Oncology Data Specialist, Certified (Preferred)
Skills
Knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, familiarity with basic statistics
Ability to analyze and draw inferences from statistical data; computer skills
Human relations and oral/written communications skills
Ability to work under immediate supervision
Attention to details, familiarity with contents of the patient record; ability to use resources of other institutions and physician offices and obtain/analyze oncology related data
What You Will Do
Apply abstracting and coding knowledge and communicate effectively with medical staff to determine accurate assignment of codes for diagnosis, severity of illness, procedure and treatment, and outcome measures
Complete daily analysis of medical records for oncology patients and determine eligibility for case reporting
Maintain automated suspense listing of cases to be coded and abstracted and an electronic non-reportable list for state requirements
Obtain recurrence, subsequent treatment, and outcome information from internal and external sources at least annually for each oncology patient in the registry and update the record in the database
Assist in data compilation and reporting as necessary
Participate in department quality improvement projects
