Qualifications
High School Graduate plus health care courses or on‑the‑job training specific to a hospital or medical office setting.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year experience in a health care setting is preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in computer, written and verbal communication, telephone, cash handling, and customer service skills. Requires six (6) months of on‑the‑job training to attain job proficiency. Orientation and training are age‑specific.
Physical requirements: This is a safety‑sensitive position. Please see the St. Bernards Substance Abuse Policy for further information. The normal hospital environment requires normal corrected eyesight, hearing within normal range, frequent walking, pushing wheelchairs up to 350 pounds, and sitting 50% of the time. Operates FAX machines, card embossers, imprinting devices, copiers, printers, and computer terminals; requires occasional lifting, stair climbing, and carrying up to 50 pounds; requires direct patient contact.
Job Summary Arranges for the efficient and orderly registration of patients, ensures that accurate patient information is collected and that patients are made aware of hospital policies and procedures. Responsible for patient demographics used in the preparation of records and reports that inform operating decisions. Works with and has access to confidential patient information. Requires making frequent decisions or actions following general procedures without clearly defined precedents, a high degree of mental alertness, and close visual attention to details. Requires diplomacy and a professional image and manner in dealing with patients, families, visitors, medical staff, and St. Bernards Medical Center personnel. The registrar is responsible for a positive first impression as the initial point of service contact for SBMC customers. Job responsibilities include registration in any area under the direction of the Manager of Admissions.
