About the Role Part‑time Staff Archeologist (SoCal) field work in Southern & Central California. As‑needed position with flexible schedule and no guaranteed minimum hours.

Responsibilities

Conduct pedestrian surveys, construction monitoring, and testing, including collection of field data, digital photography, artifact identification, GPS data collection, and mapping.

Coordinate with construction crews on monitoring needs and schedules.

Maintain project files and regulatory compliance knowledge.

Interact with customers and clients and work independently and in a team.

Maintain confidentiality and safe work practices, attend required safety training.

Participate in continuous improvement programs and support team efforts.

Keep up‑to‑date on industry trends by formal training and professional workshops.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

At least two (2) years of experience in California with archaeological survey, construction monitoring, and site recording.

Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related discipline.

Completion of an archaeological field school or equivalent preferred.

Demonstrated independent survey and monitoring projects.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel and related computer systems.

Experience with GPS equipment and Survey 123 or similar required.

Valid driver’s license and own transportation; travel often required.

Familiarity with cultural resource law and regulations preferred.

Organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to travel and conduct long fieldwork hours in varied terrain; carry equipment up to 40 pounds.
