Responsibilities
Transports prisoners, sometimes after normal business hours;
Provides security Mingus in the Frederick-Winchester Joint Judicial Center;
Transport zondag by vehicle, inmates and other individuals under custody;
Transport mental patients to assigned institutions;
Responsible for transferring male or female inmates from holding cells into the courtroom;
Take appropriate action in emergency situations (i.e. breaking up fights, crowd control, handcuffing disorderly subjects, etc.);
Execute and make returns of civil and criminal process, orders, levies, and evictions;
Searching inmates prior to placing them in holding cells;
Assist area agencies;
Perform routine law enforcement duties as required (e.g. traffic enforcement, accident response, back up, special patrols, etc.) and issue summons for violations.
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Candidates interested in this role must have any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED), be certified by the State, certify in the operation of certain equipment as required by the justice system, and possess a valid appropriate driver's license. Other qualifications include the ability to read laws and policies, write incident reports and other documents using proper grammar, punctuation and spelling,$conn the ability to speak effectively using correct English. Some knowledge of police methods, practices and procedures, the geography of the City and locations of important landmarks/buildings, and knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Sheriff's Office are preferred.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Some knowledge of police methods, practices and procedures. Some knowledge of the geography of the City and locations of important landmarks/buildings. General knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Sheriff's Office. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to prepare clear comprehensive reports. Ability to deal courteously but firmly with the public. Ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances. Ability to develop skill in the use of firearms and the wanted of motor vehicles. Possession of physical agility and endurance.
Required Physical Activities Requires considerable physical effort working continuously with average and frequently with heavy or frequent requirement for long periods including but not limited to climbing, flexibility, talking, balancing, stoopingfastcall bending kneeling, crouching, walking, running, jumping crawling, liftingbookmark and pushing.
Vision Requirements Minimum standards as required by the Division of Motor Vehicles and no proven symptoms of being color blind.
