Compensation Benefits: This is a full-time state position that provides a percentage of matching contributions to employees’ retirement plans, 11 holidays, and a minimum of 15 days of annual and sick leave per year. The state also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.
Job Description Basic Purpose: Position is assigned responsibilities involving the layout, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, controls, fixtures and related equipment in facilities.
Typical Functions
Services, maintains and repairs HVAC systems that control temperature, humidity, air‑flow and air‑filtering in all types of commercial and light‑commercial buildings.
Inspects HVAC systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs, and implementing preventive maintenance programs.
Performs scheduled and routine preventive maintenance on HVAC systems for the purpose of ensuring life‑cycle operation of these systems.
Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, equipment and refrigerant logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
Orders and maintains equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
Inform supervisor regarding status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making purchasing and scheduling decisions.
Education And Experience Current Mechanical Journeyman license
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And Competencies Knowledge of the operation of a variety of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems; of the methods, materials, fixtures, tools and equipment utilized in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance; and of standard safety precautions in the trade. Ability is required to maintain and repair various types of heating, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. Ability to install various types of heating and air conditioning components and in providing guidance and training to assigned work crews.
Licenses/Certificates required Mechanical Journeyman
Physical Requirements
Applicant must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 40 pounds
Applicant must be able to work in extreme weather conditions (over 95 degrees F and below 20 degrees F).
Applicant must be able climb ladders and stairs.
Conditions Of Employment
Contingent on a favorable NCIC/OSBI background check
Contingent on passing a pre‑employment drug & alcohol screening
Considered essential personnel (work during inclement weather)
Available to work if called in due to an emergency
Non‑exempt FLSA status
Must maintain a valid driver’s license
Tobacco and Vape free facility
Mechanical Journeyman license and EAP certification or the ability to obtain these licenses within the first 12 months of employment
Travel throughout the state is required with overnight stays
T1 security clearance (eligibility for national security positions shall be granted to persons who are U.S. citizens)
