Position Description
This position announcement will be used to fill full‑time, permanent, safety‑sensitive Correctional Records Clerk positions in the Detention Facilities with Anne Arundel County Government. The role is a full‑performance‑level technical support job that involves maintaining inmate records and calculating and monitoring release dates for inmates incarcerated at the Detention Center.
Work days and hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm or Sunday – Thursday, 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm.
Nature and Variety of Work Employees in this class perform a variety of processes to maintain precise tracking of each inmate’s location and projected release. Responsibilities include:
Contacting court representatives, law‑enforcement agencies, and internal staff to facilitate inmate transfers and provide technical data on release dates.
Responding to public inquiries about inmate status.
Performing specialized calculations to determine exact incarceration periods and adjusting for court decisions or additional sentencing.
Determining appropriate criteria for each inmate to ensure safe and accurate inmate movements.
Recommending improvements to operations and maintaining compliance with all mandatory rules.
Examples of Duties and Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Interpret court commitments to ensure lawful confinement or prospective transfer.
Authorize releases as directed by the court system, including warrant checks in the Anne Arundel County Warrant System, MILES, and METERS.
Respond to requests for information about legal status from the public, law‑enforcement agencies, courts, and other correctional agencies.
Facilitate transfers of inmates to outside agencies for court, medical, or other purposes.
Enter data into the Inmate Jail Management System, Offender Watch, and other relevant systems.
Perform mathematical calculations of sentences, adding or deducting earned time credits.
Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Graduation from high school.
Experience:
Four (4) or more years of progressively responsible office support work, including at least one (1) year in a specialized environment requiring attention to detail and accuracy, and proficiency in office software systems.
NOTE – The selection process includes a comprehensive background investigation and medical evaluation. This is a safety‑sensitive position with required controlled‑substance and alcohol testing. Longevity pay is available based on years of service.
Supplemental Qualifications
High school or college coursework in criminal justice.
Work experience as a records clerk, legal secretary, court clerk, or court reporter.
Experience with databases such as the Anne Arundel County Warrant System, MILES, METERS, Inmate Jail Management System, and/or Offender Watch.
Experience working within a correctional facility.
Experience in a government office or agency.
Intermediate level or higher experience with data entry, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs and Sheets.
