Join the Parks and Community Services Department as a Natural Resources Maintenance Aide II – seasonal. This non‑exempt, union (Teamsters Local #763) position works 40 hours per week on a 6:30 am – 3:00 pm shift (adjusted as needed). Apply by February 15 2026, 5 pm.

Job Summary Responsible for maintenance of blueberry farmland, nature trails, and natural resources in Lake Hills Greenbelt and Mercer Slough Nature Park, working cooperatively with staff and volunteers, ensuring safety and customer service in all weather conditions.

Hours 40 hours per week; shift 6:30 am‑3:00 pm (adjusted as necessary).

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Assist full‑time employees with farm, trail, and landscape maintenance operations including mowing, weed eating, backpack blowing, pruning, hand weeding, planting, mulching, trail surfacing, brush/leaf pick‑up, litter removal, storm damage cleanup, farm drainage, natural resource enhancement projects, and integrated pest management.

Work around the general public and with city staff and volunteers.

Perform all other general maintenance duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

Work under close supervision of a Lead Worker on the job site; supervision diminishes with proficiency.

May work independently based on clear instructions.

Complete tasks with appropriate efficiency and maintain courtesy to co‑workers and the public.

Improper work may affect City liability.

Qualifications

High‑school diploma or GED equivalent; 2‑4 months related maintenance or restoration labor preferred.

Or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training providing the required skills.

Experience with safety rules desirable.

Valid Washington driver’s license with a good driving record; proof required at interview.

Familiarity with hand‑held power tools and landscape maintenance equipment.

Basic mechanical skills and manual dexterity.

Ability to safely operate equipment and machinery.

Good communication skills, ability to listen and respond politely.

Knowledge of natural area, trail, or blueberry farm maintenance standards desirable.

Physical Demands

Walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.

Acceptable hearing and visual acuity; vision required includes close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Must work outdoors in all weather; provide weather‑related gear if needed.

Must wear appropriate work clothing; some tasks require long‑sleeved shirts.

Work environment moderate noise level.

Hazards include use of mowers and brush‑clearing equipment; isolation may present hazards when working alone.

Push, pull, lift, or carry objects up to 50 lb.

May routinely walk, stand, crawl, or stoop.

Definition Of a Seasonal Employee

Pre‑approved by Human Resources to comply with legislation.

Regularly scheduled up to 40 hours per week for a customary annual employment of six months or less.

Full‑time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12‑month period.
