Description
The Freight Sales & Brokerage Specialist will be responsible for developing new customer relationships, managing carrier partnerships, and coordinating freight shipments through legal and efficient brokerage channels. This role requires a deep understanding of freight brokerage, both on the customer sales side and the carrier sales side, with a focus on legal and oversize freight.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Identify, target, and onboard new shippers requiring freight solutions
Source and vet carriers to cover freight via legal brokerage practices
Negotiate rates with customers and carriers to ensure profitability
Use industry technology and load boards to secure capacity (e.g., DAT, Truckstop, etc.)
Coordinate and manage shipments from pickup to delivery, ensuring proper documentation
Maintain carrier compliance and vetting standards (FMCSA, insurance, etc.)
Build and maintain strong relationships with both shippers and carriers
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure service excellence
Provide regular updates, quoting, and reporting to management
Education/Experience
3+ years of experience in freight brokerage or 3PL environment
Proven sales experience on both the shipper and carrier side
Familiarity with legal freight and oversize load boards and documentation
Proficiency with TMS platforms and load boards (e.g., McLeod, DAT, Truckstop)

Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.
Ability to read, write, and accurately perform basic mathematical functions including adding, subtracting, multiplication and division.
Ability to analyze issues independently.
Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must possess knowledge of Company policies and procedures, including safety.
Must consistently produce an efficient, accurate work product.
Work Requirements
Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, customers, and the general public at all times.
Must pass post-offer employment drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review.
Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or supervisors with other duties as required.
Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
Physical Requirements
Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, talk and hear.
Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
Frequently required to sit and use hands.
Frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
