​The Commission seeks a Principal Parks Facilities Maintenance Worker for the Prince George’s County Trap & Skeet Center (PGTS) location. Under general supervision, the employee performs general and some skilled building/park maintenance work involving moderate responsibility, complexity, and variety. The role includes operation of a variety of equipment such as riding mowers, tractors with attachments, and bucket trucks.

​The M‑NCPPC offers a competitive salary range of $42,135 to the mid‑point annually at the Principal Parks Facilities Maintenance Worker level, along with an excellent benefits package that includes generous leave, extensive health coverage, deferred compensation, an employer’s retirement plan, and work‑life programs.

Key Responsibilities

Work with the immediate supervisor to ensure that all aspects of maintenance, preparation, and cleanup are coordinated in advance of every event.

Perform general landscaping duties and routine building maintenance at the PGTS according to established standards.

Distribute clay targets for all disciplines of clay target shooting.

Perform minor maintenance and repairs on grounds around the facility, using various types of specialized and technical equipment, including hand tools.

Organize, rotate and keep all clay targets, ammunition fresh and accessible as needed.

Maintain and repair all solar panels and batteries needed for Sporting Clay machines.

Be knowledgeable of safety and fire regulations and ensure all requirements are met on a regular basis. Perform routine safety inspections and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, endorsing safe work practices.

Work independently as assigned, or as part of a group when appropriate.

Provide general assistance to Trap & Skeet visitors in a courteous and effective manner, advising park visitors of rules and regulations.

Respond to emergencies and inclement weather conditions such as hurricanes, blizzards, and earthquakes. Summon emergency assistance as appropriate and open and close Commission facilities.

Perform other and special related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).

Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total four (4) years.

Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.

Pass Commission medical examination.

Depending on the area of assignment, some positions in this class require within 12 months of hire:

Commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements;

Obtaining certifications including:

Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Pesticide Applicator certification in the categories appropriate to the work assignment;

Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Fertilizer Applicator certification; and

National Playground Safety Institute certification.

Benefit Summary (2026) Benefits are provided for informational purposes only and are not an employment agreement. Eligible Merit System employees receive benefits as described below, with some plans optional.

Defined Benefit Plan (Mandatory Participation) – Plan E excludes FOP members.

457(b) Plan (Optional) – Pre‑tax and Roth.

Traditional and Roth IRAs (Optional).

Retiree Healthcare – Eligibility requires, at least 10 years of eligible service and continuous enrollment in M‑NCPPC plans during the 36 months immediately preceding your retirement date. Premium cost share based on years of service.

Health Insurance Plans (FOP Members Pay 23% for Medical, Prescription and Dental, and same as all other employees for Vision; other employees pay the lower percentages listed below.)

Medical:

Kaiser Permanente HMO – 15%

UnitedHealthcare Select EPO – 20%

UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus POS – 20%

Prescription – CVS Caremark – 15%

Dental – Delta Dental PPO and DeltaCare HMO – 20%

Vision – EyeMed – 80% of the Low Option plan paid by Commission. Any balance paid by employee. Low, moderate and high options are available; frequency of covered services differs.

Flexible Spending Accounts (Employee Pays 100%)

Medical Account – Maximum annual contribution: $3,300

Dependent Care Account – Maximum annual contribution: $7,500

Long‑Term Disability Insurance (Mandatory Participation)

Employee pays 20%; Commission pays 80% (FOP Members pay 100%). Benefits paid at 66 2/3% of base salary, maximum of $6,000/month.

Long‑Term Disability Insurance – Supplemental

Employee pays 100%. Benefits paid at 66 2/3% of base salary that exceeds $108,000; capped at $216,000.

Basic Life and AD&D Insurance

Employee pays 20%; Commission pays 80%.

Coverage: Two times base salary; maximum benefit is $200,000 per sum.

Automatic coverage with opt‑out provision.

Supplemental & Spouse/Dependent Life Insurance

Employee pays 100%.

Supplemental – 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 times base salary; max benefit $750,000.

Spouse/Dependent – $10,000/$5,000, $20,000/$10,000, or $30,000/$15,000.

Sick Leave Bank

Employees have 60 days from date of hire to enroll.

Employee contributes 8 leave hours each year.

Annual coverage: up to 688 hours for own serious medical condition, and 480 hours for parental responsibilities (birth, adoption or foster care), and 80‑160 hours for serious medical condition of an immediate family member.

Leave Programs

Annual: 15 days per year

Personal: 3 days per year (12‑month waiting period)
