Production Printing Manager Location: Phoenix, AZ. Salary: $65,000 – $90,000. Posted 6 days ago.

Job Summary Manage the ongoing operation of all roll‑fed, offset and flexographic printing activities to produce final graphics on packaging for various food packaging products. Oversee the slitting department to support plant‑wide operations. Lead start‑up activities for the newly formed folding‑carton department. Serve as the safety, training, performance appraisal and hiring manager for a 50‑80 person department operating across four 12‑hour shifts. Develop and manage the department budget and profit‑and‑loss statement, oversee the supply‑chain process from planning through delivery, and liaise internally and externally with customers to ensure timely and efficient delivery.

Essential Functions

Maintain a positive and professional attitude that reflects the company’s commitment to safety, employee satisfaction, quality, and continuous improvement.

Direct and coordinate the activities for all printing personnel in printing, slitting, and die‑cutting operations.

Maintain quality control processes to ensure every print job is done on time and at high quality.

Follow and maintain systems and procedures outlined in the company manuals.

Maintain production control records and provide information to management regarding delivery dates, schedules, and operating problems.

Manage vendor relationships to ensure project goals are met, expenditures, equipment delivery, and equipment performance specifications.

Identify and review wet offset and flexographic printing related technological advancements (including equipment); determine how and where to incorporate into business.

Analyze quality, productivity, and waste standards to ensure accuracy; lead continuous improvement efforts.

Manage budget performance against forecast for areas of responsibility.

Work proactively with vendors to ensure continuous improvement and optimal production solutions for new and existing marketing materials and concepts.

Initiate hiring and manage temporary workforce when needed to cope with expanding workload.

Take all necessary actions to manage production costs and improve profitability.

Ensure inventories are conducted and accurate records are maintained.

Advise management on capital improvements needed to increase company productivity.

Evaluate production equipment purchases/leases and conduct cost/benefit analyses.

Schedule, delegate, and ensure performance of all equipment maintenance following maintenance procedures; maintain maintenance logs.

Assure a backup of all work in progress and archived completed work is done in a timely manner.

Coordinate and manage all inventory supplies to ensure minimum waste and spoilage.

Inform the Operations Manager and Director of Operations of equipment and production problems.

Maintain a safe work environment and ensure the maintenance and upkeep of the physical location.

Participate in SQF Housekeeping and Food Safety Programs; provide plant housekeeping support.

Job Qualifications

Excellent knowledge of all facets of print production: presses, die cutting, graphics, and folding carton.

Experience in Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma Green Belt or above preferred.

Experience working in a self‑directed work environment a plus.

Computer literate.

Familiar with CIELAB and CMC Tolerance color matching systems.

Ability to successfully communicate (in English), orally and in writing, both inside and outside the organization and at all levels.

Ability to multi‑task and utilize resources to execute tasks within a deadline‑oriented environment.

Commitment to continuous process improvement initiatives and ability to solve problems creatively.

Highly motivated and high level of initiative; inspires confidence to work independently and in support of department goals and business objectives.

Ability to build relationships and work across a multi‑product line organization.

Ability to facilitate continuous improvement projects.

Ability to develop programs and train personnel at various levels of the organization.

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

7+ years in Flexo Printing in a supervisory role or 10+ years’ experience in Flexo Printing in a management role.

Spends approximately 50% of time walking, observing, and advising on the manufacturing floor.

Able to use hands and fingers to operate computer.

Able to distinguish color variation in all spectrums.

Able to hear in a manufacturing environment.

Occasional automobile or air travel is required.

Temperature controlled office and press area.

Standard manufacturing requirements related to PPE include hearing protection, eye protection, safety shoes, etc.
