Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Plant Manager 1 provides leadership and direction to the plant in all areas of responsibility including safety, quality, people, production, packaging, quality, maintenance, plant supply chain operations purchasing, safety, and environmental functions. This position is responsible for the day‑to‑day operations and site‑specific strategic plan execution to ensure production goals are met in the most cost‑effective manner, delivering expected financial results.
Directs the overall activities of the manufacturing facilities of the plant to ensure demand is met, and product is produced and shipped at the lowest possible cost to meet the customers' requirements while maintaining corporate established quality standards
Is responsible for expense control, including shrink, labor and overhead costs utilizing Continuous Improvement techniques
Develops annual plant budget in partnership with other functions, aligned with forecasted sales volumes and planned inventory levels
Develops and manages implementation of plant capital budget
Partners with finance to ensure end of month closing schedules are met
Ensures that appropriate standard operating procedures (SOP's) are developed and maintained for all aspects of the business
Is responsible for expense management and control, including shrink, labor and overhead costs utilizing Continuous Improvement techniques and a Management Operating Structure (MOS)
Implements plant safety programs and ensures compliance with good manufacturing practices (GMP's)
Partners with Quality to ensure the Food Security Policy/Program to assess potential food security risks and to ensure food security preventive measures are being implemented and routinely audited regarding the manufacturing, handling and storage of all food ingredients as well as finished goods
Is responsible for all corporate, customer and government audits to ensure compliance.
Is responsible for environmental compliance
Collaborates with other plant managers to share best practices
Is responsible for maintaining proper staffing levels, employee performance evaluations, discipline, and employee commendation
Has supervisory responsibility involving staffing, conducting performance appraisals, training and developing subordinates, promotions, salary increases, terminations, disciplinary actions, etc.
Is supported by corporate functions to manage the overall succession planning and development of plant management staff.
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Operations or Business Management
Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in operations, maintenance, engineering and/or process improvement roles including managing teams of people
Previous experience working in a Lean environment
Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification a plus
Familiarity with regulatory bodies (e.g. EPA, FDA, OSHA, etc.) required
Non‑technical Competencies
Ability to define, diagnose and resolve issues as they arise
Excellent business acumen and organization‑wide perspective and understanding
Strong executor with ability to influence and translate plans into action
Detail oriented with the ability to multi‑task and meet tight deadlines.
Ability to prioritize, maintains confidentiality, and interacts with all levels of management across the organization
Proficient budgeting experience
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Excellent organizational and documentation skills
Excellent computer skills (MS Office, Word, Power Point and Excel)
Extensive manufacturing knowledge
Relies on experience to make good judgments
Understands safety regulations and requirements
Strong interpersonal skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills
