Facilities and Maintenance Assistant – Archdiocese of Washington – Pastoral Center Join the Catholic Schools Office, Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington as a Facilities and Maintenance Assistant in Hyattsville, MD. This role supports the Facilities Management team by maintaining the physical integrity of the Central Pastoral Administration and assisting with all aspects of property maintenance. Responsibilities Effectively communicate with staff and external partners. Conduct maintenance work, service requests, building inspections, and preventive maintenance. Prepare maintenance reports and maintain daily logs of contractor work. Perform visual inspections of roofs, drains, and building envelopes. Schedule preventive maintenance for HVAC, elevators, fire alarms, security, and video systems. Oversee contractors and conduct site visits to assigned properties. Address deficiencies reported by Catholic Mutual. Maintain inventory of equipment, tools, and supplies. Repair and maintain fleet automobiles. Provide basic maintenance of grounds. Coordinate service, repair, and replacement of appliances. Manage pest control and assist between visits. Ensure all work is completed safely, promptly, and professionally. Assist other facilities staff as needed. Review security footage as required. Create new employee badges. Prepare check requests and order office supplies. Manage the Facility Ticket system, assign work to staff, and create calendar invitations to ensure timely completion. Modify and manage preventive maintenance calendars and distribute accordingly. Maintain a database of fleet vehicle information. Manage after‑hours meeting room calendar. Act as a representative of the Archdiocese to the public. Serve as point of contact for visiting priests, bishops, and guests. Review office mail and distribute. Sign in guests and visitors, create visitor badges, and track badges. Update and manage the property management database. Create and manage the Photo Directory. Answer calls and direct them as needed, including the switchboard. Greet guests upon arrival when necessary. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Effective team player with strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks and work with minimal supervision. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Professional and courteous interaction with clients. Commitment to Archdiocesan policies, procedures, standards, and legal requirements. Valid and current driver’s license with a clean driving record. Availability to work Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, including overtime, nights, and weekends. Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum 2–3 years of experience in property management or a facilities office (preferred). Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word. Basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical skills. Ability to install, service, replace, and repair wall molding, caulking, drywall, painting, window screens, blinds, doors, light fixtures, toilets, sinks, vanities, and disposals. Work Environment This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, and filing cabinets.
