Position Overview

Tavern on the Green is seeking an experienced, strategic, and hands-on Director of Events to lead our robust events business. This role oversees the full lifecycle of events—from sales and client relationships to planning and flawless execution—while driving revenue growth and upholding the exceptional hospitality standards of this iconic New York City landmark.

The ideal candidate is a proven leader with strong financial acumen, a passion for client experience, and the ability to balance high-level strategy with day-to-day execution in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales

  • Drive new event business through proactive outreach, relationship building, and strategic sales initiatives
  • Manage and grow existing client relationships to maximize repeat business and long-term partnerships
  • Develop and execute sales strategies to expand market reach and increase event revenue and profitability

Event Planning & Execution

  • Oversee all phases of the event process, from initial inquiry and proposal through execution and post-event follow-up
  • Review and approve contracts, BEOs, floor plans, timelines, and final payments
  • Partner with the Executive Chef and culinary team to develop menus and pricing aligned with client needs and business objectives
  • Lead weekly production meetings with culinary, operations, service, and accounting teams
  • Maintain on-site leadership presence during events to ensure seamless execution and exceptional guest experiences

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Events team, promoting excellence in sales performance and service delivery
  • Set clear goals, expectations, and accountability standards for team members
  • Establish and enforce best practices related to profitability, staffing models, vendor partnerships, menu presentation, and event design

Client Experience & Quality Control

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for high-profile clients and VIP events
  • Address and resolve client concerns professionally and efficiently
  • Ensure every event reflects Tavern on the Green’s brand, attention to detail, and service standards

Networking & Brand Representation

  • Represent Tavern on the Green at industry events, tastings, and networking opportunities
  • Cultivate strong relationships with vendors, partners, and the broader hospitality and events community

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in event sales, planning, and execution, preferably within luxury or high-volume hospitality
  • 3–5+ years of experience in a Director-level role , leading and managing a team of sales managers or senior event professionals
  • Proven track record of driving event revenue growth and achieving sales goals
  • Demonstrated success in coaching, mentoring, and developing high-performing sales teams
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and client relationship management skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, pricing strategy, and contract review

Schedule

  • Full-time, salaried (OT Exempt) position
  • 50 hours per week
  • Availability required for evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event needs

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $110,000–$200,000 annually (including base + commissions)
