Purpose The Pet Stylist’s primary purpose is to perform expert‑level professional grooming services—including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling بما, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning—while prioritizing the safety, comfort, and well‑being of the pets in our care.
The Pet Stylist also delivers high‑level customer service to pet parents and may be asked to complete additional tasks as assigned by Grooming Salon Leader, Solutions Manager, or Store General Manager.
Essential Job Functions
Perform professional grooming services (bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, gland cleaning) under moderate supervision, following pet parent instructions and company policies.
Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
Prioritize the well‑being and safety of every animal, monitor for discomfort or injury, and report concerns promptly.
Evaluate each pet’s needs, considering coat type, skin conditions, and temperament.
Provide professional, courteous customer service, address inquiries, give grooming recommendations, and resolve questions or concerns.
Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at‑home care, promoting overall pet well‑being.
Maintain a clean, safe grooming area, disinfect and sanitize tools, and perform daily and weekly cleaning duties per Petco hygiene policies.
Apply.parametrize Petco’s grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency.
May train, support, and supervise entry‑level trainees in the absence of the Grooming Salon Leader.
Education / Experience
Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous experience as a professional groomer or completion of a technical grooming training program.
High‑school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
Independent judgment and problem solving in routine to moderately complex situations.
Results‑driven with commitment to productivity, performance, and ownership of role in the grooming salon.
Strong attention to detail in grooming services.
Genuine passion for animals and a desire to continue a career in pet grooming.
Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and behaviors.
High proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members.
Capacity to handle petsaffung of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
Available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.
Work Environment The majority of job duties are conducted indoors in the grooming salon. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds as necessary), and standing for extended periods. It may require working at heights using a two‑step ladder or other support tools, such as vacuums, during cleaning and maintenance duties. The position involves interacting with pet parents and dogs while remaining available to the salon team. The environment can be noisy and wet.
