Responsibilities
Clinical Care – the PA or NP provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. Works in collaboration with supervising physicians, obtains medical histories, performs examinations, orders and reviews diagnostic tests, formulates treatment plans, and may perform procedures, prescribe medications, and function as an assistant on operative cases within scope.
Patient Education & Psychosocial Support – educates patients/families on care, treatment plans, side effects, and discharge instructions; provides psychosocial support collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team.
Information Management – ensures appropriate documentation and protects information of all forms from unauthorized access or disclosure.
Quality Management – demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, compliance with regulatory requirements, and commitment to patient care.
Professional Development – engages in projects that advance competency, serves as a clinical resource and preceptor, reports safety events, and collaborates on research and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Education – Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
Experience – Prefer clinical experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line; no specific experience required, but must be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS Hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process.
Licensure – Active PA Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), Connecticut State Physician Assistant License, ACLS/BLS Certified, and, when indicated, DEA License, PALS, or NRP Certification. Additional certifications may be required based on specialty.
