Overview The Ironworker General Foreman oversees and coordinates the daily operations of structural steel construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and timelines. The role involves supervising crews, managing resources, and liaising with project managers and subcontractors. Must be familiar with work assigned and ensure that all work meets or exceeds standards. Accounts for crew accountability, motivates assigned employees, and supports the immediate supervisor in any possible manner to effectively perform duties. Must learn and understand all safety hazards related to the work, and safely and effectively use or operate work‑related tools and equipment. Will be required to work in a plant operations or construction jobsite setting.

Responsibilities

Supervises and coordinates activities of structural steel construction crews.

Supervises and sets direction for all Foreman and Leadmen on‑site to ensure best use of company resources; and adherence to all company policies and state and federal regulations. Provides formal coaching feedback to Foreman.

Schedules equipment, materials and tools to effectively utilize all resources and to maximize production and minimize costs after becoming familiar with scope of work and site conditions. Collaborates with Ironwork Superintendent on all scheduled activities.

Manages, coaches, trains and implements standardized work plans. Assists Ironworker Superintendent in process improvement efforts.

Manages and is responsible for safe working conditions and safety procedures on the project, more particularly for a specific discipline. Understands and enforces company, jobsite specific, federal, and state safety regulations on site and addresses any concerns with Ironworker superintendent.

The General Foreman will be accountable for project construction activities and communicate the expectations to craftsman, subcontractors, and vendors.

Maintains records of labor and equipment production and compares it to the estimate. Communicates with the Ironworker Superintendent concerning any cost overruns and utilization of the company resources.

Mentors Foreman on the work discipline such as production costs, scope of work, quality, and safety.

Updates and maintains all crew and equipment matrices.

Responsible for holding crew members and foreman accountable for company and project rules.

Ensures all SOPs and best practices are followed.

Responsible for conducting weekly/quarterly safety and quality audits.

Advances knowledge of the QC process as it pertains to checkout process.

Will be responsible for receiving permits to support the work being performed.

Qualifications

High school or GED required; technical training or NCCER certification preferred.

5‑10 years of Ironworker experience in the oil and gas industry, with 3‑5 years in a supervisory role.

Proficient in reading and interpreting P&IDs and blueprints.

Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Physical

Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., but may occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Hearing and comprehension are necessary for giving and receiving directions.

Will need to perform sedentary to heavy work.

Will operate office equipment of all types.

Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.

Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.

Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, reaching overhead, squatting, sitting or standing and lifting.

Must be able to manipulate and traverse uneven terrain, ladders, and multi‑floor buildings with no elevator.

Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc.

Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (Heat, Cold, Rain, etc.).

Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Ability to drive cars/trucks as needed.

Mental

Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management/supervision and field workers.

Speaking and reading & writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy.

Ability to use math/complete calculations.

Work at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractions.

Decision‑making skills necessary.

Detail‑oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details.

Requires strong leadership and motivational skills.
